Gov. Gavin Newsom and California legislative and congressional members stood with Texas state lawmakers in their opposition to President Trump's plan to redraw voting maps to hold onto power in the midterm election.

Texas Democrats again defied Republican Gov. Greg Abbott and the state GOP and did not show up Friday for a vote on a controversial redistricting plan proposed by Republicans. The GOP-proposed new congressional maps that would give Republicans more seats in Congress -- potentially allowing the GOP to keep control of the U.

The possibility that the president will seek to intercede could inject an element of unpredictability into an already fractious contest.
